Alice's Trip to the Dump, 2017

On the day after Christmas, 2017...

Alice went to the recycling center at the Buena Vista dump to take care of everything that her family had left behind.

In the house refuse was separated into Cans & Bottles, Paper, Plastic and Waste. The bins and bags were loaded into the rear of Alice’s car and she drove the time-worn ten miles to the dump.

At the dump there was a further separation: Brown, Green and Clear Bottles; Number 1, Number 3 and Number 5 Plastic; Milk Jugs.

Alice is fastidious with her, and her family’s, waste. There are over 5,000 seagulls at the dump, each with an individual sense of purpose.

Alice wore size Large Cotton Verretete Eisenmann Clute Cut Chore gloves. These gloves helped her maintain the cleanliness of her hands, as well as protected her against the unexpected edges of cans and broken bottles which inevitably found their way to the bottom of the thin-skinned white plastic kitchen bag that Alice had chosen at the market the week before.

There is a strong market for these gloves among daily chorers and laborers. They are hard-wearing and washable in warm water. The clute cut provides long-lasting comfort.
